Weather Preparedness in Your Apartment!

Summer is here, which means here comes the hurricanes and heat! No one wants a bit of harsh weather to get in the way of their good summer vibes!

Weather can severely impact your safety and comfort any which way you slice it. So, it is always important to take the right steps to ensure that you and your family or roommates are safe and cozy inside as you wait out stormy skies and hazardous temperatures. As such, we are breaking down some handy ways you can help make the most of your time indoors, both productively and with a safety-conscious mindset. Let’s get started!

  • STAY COOL! Keep an eye for explosively hot temperatures, especially during the summer. Heat stroke and dehydration are pretty serious issues you do not want to mess with, on top of the threat of skin cancer and other hazardous outcomes. Stay indoors, drink plenty of water, and always look for the coolest hours whenever you are out and about.

  • ADHERE TO FLOOD SAFETY! Always keep a close eye on your local weather channel for flood threats, especially during hurricane season. Is your apartment situated on the first or third floor? Will you have access to the streets in the event of an emergency? What is the water level around you? Always be mindful of your surroundings.

  • SHELTER! In the event of a tornado, always look for the best places to protect yourself around your apartment. Closets and ESPECIALLY bathrooms are always your best bet. Stay away from windows or doors. And always make sure you have flashlights and emergency supplies ready to go!

  • WINTER TEMPERATURES! During winter, always make sure your air conditioner is in good shape. The last thing you want is to be stuck in a freezing house! Stay bundled and keep the heat on! And make sure you tell your leasing staff if there are any issues. The same applies during summer as well.

  • ELECTRICITY! Power out? Alert your apartment team to the issue. Sometimes, it might not actually be weather related. If your electricity stays out longer than expected, chances are it’s the same for your neighbors as well. Utilize emergency supplies while your leasing team works on the issue. And remember to stay indoors during dangerous lightning storms!

These are only a few ways to keep safe during bad weather. Bad weather can take place at any time so it’s important to always be prepared! Stay alert and stay safe!
